Lead Pharmacy Tech Overnight
Job Summary
Under the direct supervision of the pharmacist and in accordance with State Board of Pharmacy regulations, the Lead Pharmacy Tech will prepare, distribute, and bill pharmaceuticals. Responsibilities include overseeing daily pharmacy operations, maintaining controlled substance documentation, scheduling staff, performing audits, monitoring medication storage and quality control, and providing direction and training to other technicians.
* This is a Full Time Overnight position. Hours are typically 8:30pm - 7am with rotating weekends.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify critical issues, prioritize workload, and communicate any issues in a timely manner.
- Complete all required education and competency activities.
- Comply with facility policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Interact politely with hospital personnel in person and by phone.
- Maintain and coordinate required documentation logs accurately.
- Provide direction and training to other technicians as assigned.
- Assist in the supervision of technicians to ensure consistent adherence to policies.
- Maintain medication storage and security per regulatory requirements.
- Perform audits (e.g., anesthesia, overrides, billing) as assigned.
- Monitor compliance for quality control and performance improvement functions.
- Document monthly medication storage area inspections accurately.
- Supervise other technicians for administrative billing functions.
- Complete and monitor OR charges in a timely manner.
- Assist pharmacists with clinical reviews (e.g., medication reconciliation, triaging reports).
- Handle Technician scheduling.
- Supervise ongoing processes to monitor outdates per policy and procedures.
- Receive and check in medication/supply orders; notify inventory manager of shortages or product damage.
- Manage drug supplies cost‑effectively and identify waste reduction opportunities.
- Act as Inventory Manager/buyer when that person is unavailable or as assigned.
- Work with Inventory Manager, IV room, and utilize EXP reports to reduce expirations and waste in the ADC.
- Analyze data from various sources as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Practice and adhere to the Code of Conduct and Mission and Value Statement.
Qualifications
- Registered Pharmacy Tech with TX State Board registration.
- National PTCB certification required.
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of hospital experience.
- IV Room experience required.
- Superior IV certification and 2 years of sterile compounding experience highly preferred.
- Supervisor experience preferred.
