Job summary

Intuit seeks a Lead Tax Processor and Subject Matter Expert for Payroll Tax Operations, working remotely with flexible hours. The role leads complex escalations, authors SOPs/KBs, and coaches the team to build capacity while maintaining strict compliance and audit trails.

This hourly, non-exempt position offers 20–40 hours per week with overtime eligibility, and requires 4+ years of payroll tax experience, prior lead/SME roles, and comfort with AI tools to improve workflows.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of payroll tax experience with focus on complex tax defect resolution and multi-state filings.
• Experience functioning as a lead, senior specialist, or SME with coaching or training junior staff.
• Expert knowledge of tax regulations across US jurisdictions and local municipal systems.
• Advanced writing skills for SOPs and tax documents for a processor audience.
• Strong ownership of SLAs and ability to identify red flags before impacting the business.
• Able to propose vetted solutions and technical alternatives to leadership.
• 5+ years handling highly sensitive escalations with minimal guidance.
• 4+ years in contact center, customer service, or back-office operations.
• Comfort with leveraging AI tools to improve daily workflows.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary real-time technical expert for TP1, TP2, and TP3 staff and coach resolution paths.
• Own authoring, review, and approval of SOPs and KB articles across core operations.
• Conduct quarterly coaching sessions to close skill gaps using SBIC feedback model.
• Lead or support team huddles, QA sessions, and daily stand-ups when needed.
• Oversee WIP, backlog reduction, and aging reports; advise on staffing with the M1 manager.
• Resolve the most severe payroll tax notices and cross-jurisdictional penalties.
• Approve complex amended Federal and State returns with audit trails.
• Identify systemic trends and compliance risks; communicate with stakeholders.
• Represent team in cross-functional meetings and provide risk-informed options.
