Job summary

City of Richmond, Virginia is seeking a Senior Maintenance Technician to maintain and repair the City's parks, trails, cemeteries, and facilities through skilled labor and technical work.

The incumbent will lead an assigned crew, provide training to entry level and seasonal staff, perform equipment operation and repairs, keep records and inventories, and ensure safety and quality in all tasks while delivering friendly, professional service to park guests.

Qualifications

  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly and accurately.
  • Ability to recognize conditions that may jeopardize personal safety.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to supervise and evaluate staff.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office to include Excel, Outlook and Word.
  • Demonstrated skill in timely, accurate and excellent record keeping.
  • Ability to problem solve, prioritize tasks and find creative solutions.
  • Basic familiarity with City of Richmond Parks and Facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Operating heavy equipment, power and hand tools.
  • Park maintenance including mowing, repair of tables, benches, shelters, ball fields, snow removal, fence work and basic carpentry.
  • Facilities maintenance including cleaning, repairs and painting.
  • Determining repairs necessary on faulty equipment and making repairs or notifying proper maintenance personnel.
  • Assisting maintenance personnel in other classifications, such as plumbers and electricians.
  • Preparing and presenting reports, maintaining work order logs.
  • Provide park guests with friendly and professional customer service and guidance for safe park usage.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
