Job summary

Fairfax County Park Authority is seeking a Senior Maintenance Worker to join our highly regarded park system. You will perform semi-skilled maintenance and construction tasks, lead a crew in the absence of the supervisor, and oversee grounds and facility repairs across athletic fields, courts, restrooms, and trails.

Responsibilities include equipment operation, safety compliance, and routine performance reporting.

Qualifications

• Minimum Qualifications: Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to completion of the tenth grade; and two years of experience in maintenance, construction, or related field.
• Certificates: Driver’s license (required)
• Necessary requirements: background check, driving record check, pre-employment medical evaluation.
• Preferred: two years of athletic field or parks maintenance experience; operating park maintenance equipment.
• Able to perform manual labor and lift 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Inspect and approve work of maintenance workers;
• Provide guidance and training to staff;
• Transport crew and equipment to job sites;
• Lead a crew in absence of Maintenance Crew Chief;
• Lead grass cutting, sodding, seeding, and fertilizing activities;
• Maintain playground equipment;
• Complete daily/preventive maintenance reports;
• Train staff;
• Implement safety procedures;
• Operate safety-conscious practices and comply with guidelines;
• Report unsafe conditions;
• Maintain customer, employee, and supervisor relationships.
