Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University is seeking a Paint Shop Supervisor to lead the Paint Shop and Grounds Bargaining Unit, directing daily operations, safety, and quality across maintenance painting and related projects. This role reports to Building Operations Manager and requires hands-on leadership, budget oversight, coordinating with campus departments, and ensuring timely, on-budget completion of work.

The successful candidate will manage a team of six or more union employees, oversee inventory

Qualifications

  • Minimum five years of related experience with at least three in supervisory roles.
  • High school diploma or GED required; further education substituted per policy.
  • Experience with facilities maintenance or paint shop operations preferred.
  • Ability to manage budgets and allocate resources effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Support sustainability by providing a safe and sustainable environment.
  • Direct staff to achieve departmental programmatic objectives.
  • Analyze performance standards to meet service expectations.
  • Organize and supervise the bargaining unit in the Paint Shop.
  • Coordinate with other departments to manage multiple work flows.
  • Develop and maintain subordinate training for skill growth.
  • Provide cost and time estimates for day-to-day jobs.
  • Ensure OSHA and safety standards are followed; on-call for emergencies.
