Job summary

FedEx Logistics Downey is seeking a Package Handler trainer to mentor new staff in unloading, loading, palletizing, and scanning techniques, ensuring safe, efficient operations.

You will train peers, reinforce dock safety standards, and support daily workflow by observing conditions, updating supervisors, and assisting new procedures while handling 10–50 pound loads in a loud environment.

Qualifications

• No experience required; six months as PH preferred.
• Ability to train multiple peer PHs simultaneously.
• Ability to understand and follow instruction regarding work duties and safety methods.
• Ability to discern numbers and information to sort packages correctly.
• PHs operating switching equipment must have a valid driver’s license and maintain a DOT file.

Responsibilities

• Trains new PHs in unloading, loading, palletizing, carrying, smalls handling, SWAK, and non-conveyable handling techniques.
• Provides training to other PHs in need of instruction on unloading, carrying, loading, and palletizing techniques.
• Provides feedback on proper package handling techniques as needed.
• Reinforces dock safety standards among peer PHs.
• Understands and demonstrates by example all necessary processes and procedures.
• Updates managers on conditions during the sort to improve operation efficiency.
• Assists in implementing new package handling procedures and techniques.
• Regularly loads/unloads, palletizes, lifts, carries, pushes and pulls packages while training others.
• Utilizes hand-to-surface methods for all package handling.
• Loads/unloads packages onto/from delivery vehicles, trailers, pallets, and carts.
• Lifts and carries packages 3–5 hours per shift, possibly multiple shifts daily.
• Determines conveyor system by scanning packages, reading labels and charts, and sorting accordingly.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
