Position Summary

The Lead Ophthalmic Technician serves as a pivotal figure in the eye care team, taking on both clinical and leadership responsibilities. They play a central role in coordinating and overseeing the work of ophthalmic technicians and other staff to ensure the delivery of high-quality eye care services.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Perform specialized eye exam testing while streamlining patient flow.
  • Conduct other diagnostic testing such as visual fields, OCT, corneal topography, venipuncture, etc.
  • Conduct inventory of ophthalmic supplies, including pharmaceuticals and instruments on a regular basis and ensure compliance with CompEye procurement guidelines.
  • Provide phone support for prescription refill requests authorized by the physician.
  • Travel to other clinics and/or be on call.
  • Adhere to legal and regulatory requirements such as HIPAA guidelines to maintain patient confidentiality and privacy.
  • May perform other duties as necessary.
Experience Requirements
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience as an ophthalmic technician.
  • One year experience in a leadership position required.
Education Requirements
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); some college preferred.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT) certification strongly preferred.
Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to stay focused.
