Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in Reston, VA is seeking a lead design engineer to guide a team of structural engineers on nuclear facility projects. You will interface with other disciplines and clients, and mentor staff on design calculations, specifications, and drawing development.

Essential qualifications include a BSCE from ABET‑accredited program, 10+ years of nuclear/industrial experience, proficiency with major structural analysis software, and a PE or SE license.

Qualifications

• BSCE with emphasis in Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Ten or more years of experience in design/analysis of industrial/heavy commercial or nuclear facility structures.
• Proficiency with structural analysis software such as STAAD, SAP2000, SAFE, STRUDL, or ANSYS.
• Proficiency with design codes and standards such as ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• PE or SE license.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of structural engineers and interface with other disciplines and clients.
• Guide the design calculations, develop specifications, and drawings with designers.
• Structure analysis and design of steel frames, concrete members, and foundations.
• Possible travel to client and vendor offices or plant sites for reviews and field coordination.
