Job summary

AeroVironment, Inc. is seeking a technical/scientific manager to lead R&D and production for metal nanoparticle systems in the United States.

You will oversee lab-to-production scale-up, ensure quality and safety, and drive cross-functional collaboration across engineering, quality, and manufacturing teams. The role requires strong leadership, experience with nanosafety and regulatory standards, and the ability to translate complex science into manufacturable processes with ITAR/EAR

Qualifications

• Masters or PhD in Material Science, Chemistry, Nanomaterials or related discipline (or equivalent).
• 5–7 years demonstrated experience in product development and product lifecycle management in chemical and/or nanomaterial production.
• Experience leading technical teams through the product development lifecycle.
• Experience with drawings and BOMs; ECM; Quality systems for non-conforming parts and corrective action.
• Experience in an Agile and Waterfall development environment.
• Excellent verbal, presentation, and written communication skills to government PMs and senior leaders.
• Experience in project planning in terms of schedule, budget, and resource estimations.
• Strong leadership and management skills aligned with business strategy.

Responsibilities

• Technical Leadership (Metal Nanoparticles): guide design, synthesis routes, surface functionalization, and characterization methods.
• Scale-up from bench to pilot lines and full manufacturing; optimize throughput, yield, and particle size distribution.
• Plan, coordinate, and direct daily operations in nanoparticle production labs; report progress and KPIs.
• Allocate and optimize use of equipment, facilities, and personnel to achieve R&D and production objectives.
• Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate scientists, engineers, technicians, and operators.
• Collaborate with engineering, quality, EH&S, supply chain to integrate nanoparticle tech into products.
• Ensure compliance with nanosafety, regulatory, and quality standards; implement safety protocols.
