Blue Origin in Washington state seeks a Senior Motor Control Avionics Engineer to own the technical baseline for embedded motor controllers used across Lunar Permanence missions. You will lead architecture, requirements, and verification while working closely with hardware, firmware, and systems teams.

The role emphasizes fault-tolerant design, high reliability, and hands-on lab bring-up, with opportunities to guide a multi-disciplinary team through the full product lifecycle.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in electrical/aerospace/mechanical/computer engineering or related field.
  • Experience delivering motor control or motor drive systems for electromechanical actuators.
  • Experience with embedded control electronics in safety-critical environments.
  • Experience owning or leading a technical baseline, including requirements & interfaces.
  • Hands-on lab work with bring-up, integration, testing, and verification of embedded electromechanical systems.
  • Ability to debug electronics, firmware, sensors, actuators, and interfaces.
  • Experience designing fault-tolerant architectures for embedded control systems.
  • Proven ability to lead multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Responsible Engineer for embedded motor controllers, owning the technical baseline.
  • Define reusable motor controller architectures for multiple mechanisms and vehicles.
  • Partner with vehicle and subsystem teams on performance, safety, and integration requirements.
  • Develop controller solutions spanning embedded processing, sensing, power electronics, interfaces, and firmware.
  • Work directly with controller hardware in the lab for bring‑up, checkout, integration, and failure investigation.
  • Debug issues spanning hardware and software boundaries using standard lab equipment.
  • Define interfaces between motor controllers and motors, sensors, power, avionics networks, and higher-level control.
  • Guide a multi-disciplinary engineering team across concept to production transition.
  • Lead design trades and decisions for performance, redundancy, fault handling, manufacturability.
  • Drive fault-tolerant control strategies and health telemetry.
  • Plan and execute verification: test strategy, hardware bring-up, environmental tests.
  • Review hardware designs and test results with electrical design engineers.
  • Coordinate with systems, firmware, electrical, mechanical, safety, reliability, and test teams.
  • Communicate status, risks, and trade decisions clearly to stakeholders.
  • Support technical reviews and track actions to resolution.
