Job summary

Bloom Energy in San Jose, CA, seeks a Principal Electrical Engineer, Microgrid Modeling, to develop and validate system-level microgrid models including inverters, energy storage, and distribution networks. This on-site role reports to the VP of Product Development.

The ideal candidate has 7+ years in power system modeling, expertise in inverter-based resources, and hands-on PSCAD/PSSE experience, with familiarity with other tools such as ETAP or MATLAB/Simulink.

Qualifications

Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related field.
7+ years of hands-on experience in power system and microgrid modeling.
Strong background in power system dynamics and inverter-based resources.
Proven experience with PSCAD and PSSE; knowledge of ETAP, MATLAB/Simulink, or DIgSILENT PowerFactory preferred.
Familiarity with IEEE 1547 and NERC interconnection requirements.
Strong written and verbal technical communication skills.

Responsibilities

Develop, maintain, and validate steady-state and dynamic models of microgrid systems (inverters, BESS, transformers, MV/LV networks, loads).
Perform studies for grid-connected and islanded operation including black-start, resynchronization, and mode transitions.
Conduct load flow, short-circuit, transient stability, and protection interaction analyses.
Use PSCAD and PSSE to evaluate performance; document modeling assumptions and results.
Collaborate with hardware, controls, protection, and systems teams; support factory testing and field issue analysis.
