Job summary

MLK Community Healthcare in Los Angeles, CA is seeking a Microbiology Supervisor to lead the clinical microbiology section, oversee testing, ensure QC/QA, and guide staff development.

The role requires 2–5 years of microbiology clinical laboratory experience, a CA CLS or Clinical Microbiologist license, and 2 years of leadership experience in an acute care setting. The supervisor will drive performance metrics and maintain regulatory compliance while coordinating with the Lab Manager.

Qualifications

• 2-5 years Microbiology clinical laboratory experience.
• CA Clinical Laboratory Scientist License or Clinical Microbiologist Scientist License.
• 2 years leadership experience in an acute care setting.

Responsibilities

• Assist with methodology and instrumentation selection for patient tests.
• Validate and implement new instrumentation; standardize test procedures.
• Ensure quality control and proficiency testing; monitor analytic performance.
• Review work for adherence to standards; maintain turnaround times.
• Maintain inventory control of supplies and reagents; schedule staff duties.
• Assist in performance evaluations and hiring in their sections.
• Oversee operation of the Microbiology department and meet regulatory goals.
• Provide clinical microbiology consultations to medical staff.
• Present micro data, QC metrics, and trends to management.
• Identify and implement improvements and lean initiatives.
