Job summary

Siemens Gas and Power GmbH & Co. KG in Charlotte, NC seeks a Manager of Metallurgy Team to lead metallurgists and provide metallurgical engineering support for a global network of design, manufacturing and service operations tied to large turbine generators for the power utility market.

The role blends technical leadership with people management (roughly 50/50), requiring collaboration across engineering, manufacturing, and service teams, and involves travel up to 20% and potential off-shift

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Materials Engineering with a concentration in Metallurgy.
• 15+ years of relevant metallurgy/materials engineering experience.
• Strong expertise in physical metallurgy, including steel, copper, welding/brazing, corrosion, failure analysis and NDT.
• Strong fractography and microstructural analysis expertise.
• Leadership experience managing intercultural teams.
• Project management experience and training.
• Strong data analysis and ability to interpret material performance results.
• Willingness to travel up to ~20% and to work overtime/off-shift as needed.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and direction for metallurgical engineering support of large turbine generators and manage the Metallurgy team.
• Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, service and design to support material selection, processes and life-cycle management.
• Develop and implement materials concepts, testing programs and design improvements for manufacturing, service, repair and modernization.
• Lead material investigations, including failure analyses and root cause analyses.
• Support manufacturing with technical consultation, problem solving and supplier qualification.
