Job summary

Piper Companies is seeking a Senior Staff Systems Engineer to lead the development and lifecycle management of advanced pharmacy automation products in a regulated medical device environment, onsite in Durham, NC.

The role requires strong systems engineering expertise across electromechanical and robotic platforms, with experience in V&V, risk management, and cross-functional leadership to deliver safe, compliant solutions.

Qualifications

8+ years of systems engineering experience with electromechanical and robotic products.
Experience with full product development lifecycle for complex systems.
Familiarity with DOORS or Jama Connect for requirements management.
Knowledge of risk management methodologies, FMEA, and hazard analyses.
Experience developing and executing verification and validation activities.
Proven ability to lead technical initiatives and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

Lead systems engineering activities throughout the product lifecycle, from concept development to post-market support.
Define and maintain system requirements, architecture, and design specifications.
Conduct system-level risk assessments, FMEA, and hazard analyses.
Develop and execute verification and validation plans to ensure product performance and quality.
Partner with software, hardware, and cross-functional engineering teams to support product development and integration.
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering team members.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex system-level issues using root cause analysis techniques.
Drive continuous improvement of systems engineering processes and tools.
