Job summary

Piper Companies is seeking a Sr Staff Systems Engineer to lead pharmacy automation systems across the lifecycle in a hybrid role based in Durham, NC. You will guide architecture, requirements, risk management, and V&V for electromechanical robotics products within a healthcare tech environment.

The role requires 8+ years in systems engineering, with DOORS or Jama Connect experience and strong leadership and cross‑functional collaboration skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related STEM discipline; Master's degree preferred.
• 8+ years of progressive systems engineering experience, including significant experience with complex electromechanical and robotics products.
• Expertise across the product development lifecycle, including systems architecture, requirements, integration, verification and validation, and risk management.
• Experience with requirements management tools such as DOORS or Jama Connect and methodologies including FMEA and hazard analysis.
• Strong technical leadership, communication, problem‑solving, and cross‑functional collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead systems engineering activities for pharmacy automation products throughout the full product lifecycle, including system requirements, architecture, design, and post-market support.
• Perform system‑level risk assessments, FMEA, hazard analysis, root cause analysis, and troubleshooting for complex electromechanical systems.
• Develop and execute verification and validation plans, protocols, and system‑level testing to ensure product performance and regulatory compliance.
• Collaborate with software, hardware, and cross‑functional engineering teams while providing technical leadership, supporting design reviews, and mentoring junior engineers.
• Drive continuous improvement of systems engineering processes, methodologies, and tools.
