Job summary

Piedmont Newton Hospital in Covington, GA is seeking a Laboratory Supervisor to lead operations in the assigned section, ensuring accurate records, compliance, and quality control, while supporting physicians with testing and diagnostic processes.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, with a Bachelor's in clinical laboratory science preferred, and at least 3 years of hospital experience. ASCP/AMT/AAB certifications are required upon hire; leadership experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• Education: H.S. Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree preferred in clinical laboratory science, biomedical science, medical technology or related life/biological science.
• Work Experience: 3 years hospital experience required; lead or supervisory experience preferred.
• Licenses and Certifications: Certification as a medical technologist or medical laboratory scientist by ASCP, AMT or AAB required on hire; AAB provisional certification not accepted.

Responsibilities

• Lead all aspects of operation in assigned laboratory section/team/department.
• Maintain records, reports, policies and procedures and ensure compliance.
• Assist with test validations, regulatory compliance, quality control/assurance, and maintenance.
• Perform laboratory tests and procedures to support physicians in diagnosis and treatment.

Responsibilities:

Under the direction of laboratory management, is responsible for leading all aspects of operation in assigned section/team/department, including preparation and maintenance of records, reports, policies and procedures; analysis of testing methodologies, employee training/staffing, technical oversight, and compliance. Works in collaboration with team members to ensure that tasks, priorities, goals and achievements are coordinated with management. Assist with test validations, regulatory compliance, quality control/assurance, and maintenance within assigned area. Perform a variety of laboratory tests and procedures to assist physicians in diagnosing, monitoring, treating and preventing disease.

Qualifications:

Education

• H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) Required


• Bachelor's Degree in clinical laboratory science, biomedical science, medical technology or in a life / biological science (biology, biochemistry, microbiology, etc.) Preferred

Work Experience

• 3 years of hospital experience Required


• Previous lead or supervisory experience Preferred

Licenses and Certifications

• Certification as a medical technologist or medical laboratory scientist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), AMT (American Medical Technologists) or AAB (American Association of Bioanalysts) according to the qualifications through the State of Georgia Department of Community Health, Healthcare Facility, Clinical Laboratory regulations.
