Job summary

Piedmont Newton Hospital is seeking a Laboratory Leader to oversee operations in the assigned section, ensuring records, policies, and procedures are maintained while supporting physicians with testing results. The role requires a high school diploma or GED, a Bachelor's in a life science preferred, and at least 3 years of hospital lab experience.

Certification as a medical technologist or MLS (ASCP/AMT/AAB) is required; provisional AAB not accepted.

Qualifications

• GED or high school diploma required.
• Bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science or life sciences preferred.
• 3 years hospital lab experience required.
• Certification as MT/MLS by ASCP/AMT/AAB required; AAB provisional not accepted.

Responsibilities

• Lead all aspects of operation in the assigned section/team/department.
• Prepare and maintain records, reports, policies and procedures.
• Assist with test validations, regulatory compliance, quality control/assurance.
• Collaborate with team members to coordinate priorities with management.
• Perform laboratory tests to assist physicians in diagnosing and treating disease.

Responsibilities

Under the direction of laboratory management, is responsible for leading all aspects of operation in assigned section/team/department, including preparation and maintenance of records, reports, policies and procedures; analysis of testing methodologies, employee training/staffing, technical oversight, and compliance. Works in collaboration with team members to ensure that tasks, priorities, goals and achievements are coordinated with management. Assist with test validations, regulatory compliance, quality control/assurance, and maintenance within assigned area. Perform a variety of laboratory tests and procedures to assist physicians in diagnosing, monitoring, treating and preventing disease.

Qualifications

Education

• H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) Required


• Bachelor’s Degree in clinical laboratory science, biomedical science, medical technology or in a life / biological science (biology, biochemistry, microbiology, etc.) Preferred

Work Experience

• 3 years of hospital experience Required


• Previous lead or supervisory experience Preferred

Licenses and Certifications

• Certification as a medical technologist or medical laboratory scientist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), AMT (American Medical Technologists) or AAB (American Association of Bioanalysts) according to the qualifications through the State of Georgia Department of Community Health, Healthcare Facility, Clinical Laboratory regulations.
