Job summary

Tufts Medicine is seeking a Medical Assistant for outpatient support at our North Chelmsford area clinic. The role focuses on clinical and administrative duties to ensure smooth patient flow, assist providers, and support revenue cycle processes.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma, national MA certification, BLS or ability to obtain within 3 months, and at least 3 years of MA experience. Cardiology experience is a plus; bilingual skills are welcome.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Certification as Medical Assistant by a recognized body (AAMA/AMCA/AMT/NCCT/NHA).
• BLS certification or able to obtain within 3 months.
• Minimum 3 years of Medical Assistant experience.

Responsibilities

• Controls and monitors patient flow to maximize efficient use of providers and exam rooms; communicates delays to patients and providers; adjusts room utilization as needed.
• Prepares medical records for patient visits, confirms accuracy with patient identifiers, records chief complaint and social history, and may interview the patient for data.
• Provide high level customer service in all patient interactions.
• Maintain a safe, clean environment for patients and families.
• Escort patients to exam rooms and prepare them for provider visits, ensuring comfort, privacy and safety.
• Ensure patient and personal safety; perform fall risk assessments and monitor patients as needed.
• Prepare exam rooms for each patient based on visit requirements.
• Assist providers with physical exams, treatments, and procedures as necessary; provide chaperone support when required.
• Take and record vital signs and patient-reported pain; review medications with patient.
• Collect specimens and ensure supplies/equipment are ready for provider use.
• Perform Point of Care Testing (POC) such as urine dips, HCG, Strep A, Hgb A1C, glucose as ordered.
• Run quality control checks on equipment.
• Assist with arranging diagnostic testing and surgical procedures under nurse/physician direction.
• Assist with patient billing by ensuring CPT codes, diagnosis codes and all supplies are in order.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent

Medical Assistant National Certification Attestation (AAMA, AMCA, AMT, NCCT, or NHA)

Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification or obtain within 3 months

Three (3) years of Medical Assistant experience
