Job summary

Southland Industries Inc. is seeking a seasoned supervisor to guide field supervision and craft personnel (piping, plumbing, or sheet metal) and to ensure adherence to quality, safety, and cost-efficiency guidelines across projects.

The role requires directing labor resources, mentoring supervisory staff, and serving as a senior technical advisor to resolve complex construction issues while upholding company policies and safety programs.

Qualifications

• High school degree or equivalent; some college preferred.
• Completion of craft apprenticeship program or equivalent skill level and training.
• 5+ years in supervisory position.
• Ability to understand the project scopes and objectives as well as scopes of other construction trades.
• Advanced knowledge and understanding of OSHA safety regulations as well as company safety policies and procedures.
• Ability to read drawings and interpret specifications.
• Ability to assess crew and foremen skills and coach/mentor.
• Strong leadership and team-building skills.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to identify, troubleshoot and resolve problems before major difficulties develop.
• Ability to manage differences and diversity at the workplace.
• Advanced understanding of construction scheduling and cost control.
• Ability to handle administrative duties of position, including completion of required paperwork.
• Effective use of computers and other technology.
• Ability to effectively use time management and goal-setting.

• Employment is contingent upon satisfying all jobsite‑specific access requirements, with no outstanding restrictions from any jobsite or from working with any of Southland’s partnering General Contractors, Owners, Customers, etc.
• OSHA-30 certification (if not currently certified, must be obtained within six (6) months from date of hire).

Responsibilities

• Plan, direct, and coordinate craft personnel in support of field labor needs for project activities.
• Direct, support, and mentor all subordinate supervisory personnel.
• Serve as senior technical advisor and assist with difficult construction issues.
• Ensure policies and safety procedures are followed; interpret as needed.
• Assist with safety program implementation and interpretation.
• Participate in safety investigations and reviews.
• Authorize/approve craft personnel transactions based on performance.
• Develop and monitor quality control programs.
• Monitor and resolve issues related to procedures, damages, accidents, and delays.
• Participate in conceptual development and oversee organization, scheduling, and implementation of projects.
• Requisition supplies and materials for construction projects.
• Ensure labor and cost tracking reports are prepared and submitted by superintendents.
• Assist in supervisory training program development.
• Provide expertise to home office department heads.
• May assist in jurisdictional disputes and union negotiations as required.
• May assume superintendent responsibilities when necessary.
• Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.
