Veeco Instruments Inc. invites a Manager of Mechanical Engineering and Technical Lead to guide a hands-on engineering team focused on wet processing equipment for advanced semiconductor applications.

You will lead design reviews, mentor engineers, and personally tackle high‑risk mechanical challenges from concept through validation and production. You will own the mechanical architecture, drive safe, manufacturable designs, and collaborate with Process, Electrical, Software, and Operations teams

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering with 8+ years’ professional experience; or a Master’s with 6+ years.
• 3+ years of people management experience with direct reports.
• Experience designing mechanical systems for complex capital equipment across product lifecycles.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and develop a high‑performing mechanical engineering team while remaining an active technical contributor on the team’s most complex and business‑critical work.
• Own the mechanical architecture of wet processing equipment and personally engage in concept development, design reviews, calculations, component and material selection, prototype evaluation, and troubleshooting for high‑risk designs.
• Work side by side with engineers and manufacturing teams to resolve build, test, and field issues, using root cause analysis and hands‑on hardware investigation to turn failures into durable design improvements.
• Drive robust mechanical solutions for chemistry delivery, wafer tooling, process chambers, automation interfaces, and structural frames that meet performance, safety, quality, cost, manufacturability, and serviceability requirements.
• Make clear engineering tradeoffs and keep programs moving by identifying technical risk early, removing design roadblocks, and controlling mechanical changes through the product lifecycle.
• Partner directly with Process, Electrical, Software, Operations, Supply Chain, Marketing, and Service teams to translate customer and product requirements into integrated equipment designs.
• Raise the team’s technical bar through practical design standards, disciplined reviews, stronger documentation, and coaching that helps engineers solve increasingly complex problems independently.
