Job summary

Actalent is seeking an expert-level lead mechanical engineer for semiconductor facility projects in Austin, TX. The role focuses on directing design from concept through construction, with responsibilities covering tool installation utilities, UPW/RO/DI systems, and advanced HVAC for critical environments.

You will collaborate across disciplines, lead design reviews and HAZOP studies, and mentor junior engineers while ensuring safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Direct experience with semiconductor fab tool installation design: utility matrices, POU connections, HPM exhaust systems, and ultra-pure water infrastructure.
• Experience leading HAZOP studies, constructability reviews, and design-phase risk assessments.
• Familiarity with SEMI standards (S2, S8, F15, and related) governing semiconductor equipment safety.
• Track record of mentoring junior engineers or formally leading small project engineering teams through complex mechanical design challenges.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical engineer on projects, providing technical direction from concept through construction.
• Design and specify semiconductor tool installations, including utilities for PCW, exhaust, gases, and waste systems.
• Develop HVAC systems for advanced semiconductor facilities (air handling, VAV, chillers, boilers, pumping, exhaust).
• Engineer UPW/RO/DI and process heating/cooling systems with reliability and contamination control in mind.
• Coordinate with electrical, structural, process, chemical, controls, and architectural teams to deliver integrated solutions.
• Lead design reviews, HAZOP studies, and technical coordination meetings throughout the project lifecycle.
• Support construction through RFIs, submittal reviews, field inspections, and commissioning.
