Job summary

University of Michigan is seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer in the Facilities Planning and Development group. The role reports to the Manager of Engineering and supports healthcare facility design and project execution across multiple concurrent initiatives.

Responsibilities include planning and designing mechanical systems for healthcare facilities, preparing construction documents, coordinating budgets and studies, and providing on-site troubleshooting and leadership to resolve complex

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in design & construction, healthcare focus preferred.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD design is desired; proficient with Microsoft Office products.

Responsibilities

• Performs engineering work in planning and design of mechanical systems in healthcare facilities (HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, medical gas).
• Coordinate and prepare construction documents for multiple projects (new, renovation, infrastructure upgrades).
• Provide in-office and on-site troubleshooting for maintenance and construction projects; offer leadership and oversight.
• Lead standards development and maintenance (Master Plans, Design Guidelines, Master Specifications, etc.).
