Job summary

Michigan Medicine is seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer in Facilities Planning and Development. You will design and oversee mechanical systems across healthcare facilities, coordinate studies, budgets, and construction documents, and guide capital planning.

The role requires a PE license, strong communication, and proficiency with AutoCAD and Office tools. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you’ll lead multi-disciplinary teams on complex renovation and new-build projects, ensuring adherence

Qualifications

• Min 10 years of experience in design & construction, with healthcare focus.
• Professional Engineer license in Michigan or ability to obtain within 18 months.
• Extensive knowledge of mechanical system design in healthcare facilities.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Familiarity with office software and AutoCAD is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Perform engineering work for planning and design of mechanical systems (HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, medical gas) in healthcare facilities.
• Coordinate studies, budgets, and construction documents for multiple projects and prepare CDs for bid & award processes.
• Provide guidance on capital planning, and lead troubleshooting for maintenance and construction activities.
• Lead development of standards, master plans, design guidelines, and preferred suppliers.
