Job description

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Lead Mechanical Engineer to join our Property & Buildings team in Los Angeles, CA. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer with a strong background in healthcare and other complex building sectors, including commercial, higher education, and civic projects. The engineer will lead multi-disciplinary projects and deliver high-quality mechanical systems design from concept through construction.

Your Impact
  • Lead mechanical engineering design and delivery across a diverse portfolio including healthcare, commercial, higher education, and civic facilities.
  • Oversee design of HVAC, air distribution, hydronic, plumbing, and life safety systems.
  • Serve as a technical lead and client point of contact throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Manage projects from concept development through construction and close‑out, ensuring alignment with scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Support client development and proposal efforts, contributing to growth in multiple sectors.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and sector‑specific requirements, including healthcare regulations.
  • Coordinate with multi‑disciplinary teams to deliver integrated, high‑quality solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to junior engineers and designers.
  • Prepare and review technical reports, calculations, and specifications.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering.
  • 7+ years of experience in mechanical engineering design for building systems.
  • Experience supporting healthcare and/or complex institutional or commercial projects.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, building systems design, and engineering principles.
  • Experience managing projects through design and construction phases.
  • Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, and related design tools.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and client‑facing skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience working across multiple sectors including healthcare, commercial, higher education, or civic.
  • Familiarity with California codes and local jurisdiction requirements.
  • Experience supporting business development and client relationship management.
  • LEED AP or other sustainability credentials.

Compensation

Expected Salary: $122,700 - $182,200.
