This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Lead Mechanical Engineer to join our Property & Buildings team in Los Angeles, CA.

This role is ideal for an experienced engineer with a strong background in healthcare and other complex building sectors, including commercial, higher education, and civic projects. You will play a key role in leading multi-disciplinary projects and delivering high-quality mechanical systems design from concept through construction.

Be involved in projects with our Property & Buildings Team and be part of a collaborative organization that meets our clients’ objectives and solves their challenges.

Your Impact
  • Lead mechanical engineering design and delivery across a diverse portfolio including healthcare, commercial, higher education, and civic facilities
  • Oversee design of HVAC, air distribution, hydronic, plumbing, and life safety systems
  • Serve as a technical lead and client point of contact throughout the project lifecycle
  • Manage projects from concept development through construction and close-out, ensuring alignment with scope, schedule, and budget
  • Support client development and proposal efforts, contributing to growth in multiple sectors
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and sector-specific requirements, including healthcare regulations
  • Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver integrated, high-quality solutions
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to junior engineers and designers
  • Prepare and review technical reports, calculations, and specifications
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering
  • 7+ years of experience in mechanical engineering design for building systems
  • Experience supporting healthcare and/or complex institutional or commercial projects
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, building systems design, and engineering principles
  • Experience managing projects through design and construction phases
  • Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, and related design tools
  • Strong communication, leadership, and client-facing skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Experience working across multiple sectors including healthcare, commercial, higher education, or civic
  • Familiarity with California codes and local jurisdiction requirements
  • Experience supporting business development and client relationship management
  • LEED AP or other sustainability credentials

Compensation

Expected Salary: $122, 700- $182,200

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
