Job summary

RTX in Portsmouth, RI is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical hardware design and integration of back-end electronics for rugged defense systems. You will manage development from concept through production, ensuring performance, cost, and schedule targets are met.

The role requires a STEM degree with 5–8+ years of experience or an advanced degree with at least 5 years in aerospace/military contexts. U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain DoD clearance are mandatory.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) with 8+ years of experience, or an Advanced Degree with 5+ years of experience.
• Experience in mechanical design for aerospace/military applications and multi-baseline management.
• Experience with hardware packaging and integration for military/commercial applications.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance; U.S. citizenship required.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical development of back-end electronics systems and components to meet system-level performance.
• Provide program support from early development through transition to production.
• Ensure cost, schedule, quality, and performance targets are met.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and customers; travel as needed to support hardware build and test.
