Job summary

Standard Bots seeks a Senior Staff Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical design of Bolt, our autonomous mobile manipulation platform. You will own chassis, drivetrain, battery packaging, control box, and the arm-to-base interface from concept through certified fleet, reporting to the hardware lead.

You will guide a team of mechanical engineers, perform tough trade studies, and drive designs to production while aligning with safety certification standards and manufacturing strategies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering and 10+ years in product design for mobile robots or electromechanical vehicles.
• Deep understanding of structures, load paths, fatigue, and tolerance analysis for mechanical systems.
• Proven ability to size frames, wheels, battery mounts and defend the numbers with hand calcs or FEA.
• Expert in SolidWorks for parts, large assemblies, drawings, and simulation; familiar with release processes.
• Strong leadership with prior NP I cycles; provides direct, actionable design feedback.
• Clear design documentation, well-justified trade studies, and effective design reviews.

Responsibilities

• Own the mechanical architecture: chassis, drivetrain, battery packaging, control box, and arm-to-base interface.
• Lead concept trade studies and drive decisions to closure with software, EE, safety, and product.
• Hands-on design work with detailed drawings, hand calcs, FEA, tolerances, and DFM.
• Plan and run prototype builds and test programs for durability, stability, and performance.
• Mentor mechanical engineers and run design reviews, setting standards for drawings and releases.
• Collaborate with safety and manufacturing on certification and build strategy.
