Job summary

Recology Sunset Scavenger in San Francisco is seeking a maintenance mechanic to perform mechanical maintenance on vehicles and processing equipment. You will inspect, repair, and keep equipment safe for operation, including balers, conveyors, and motors.

The role requires four years of journeyman-level experience, familiarity with diesel/NG engines, and a CDL within eight months. You may lead small teams and must document work accurately.

Qualifications

• Four years of progressively responsible mechanical experience as a journeyman mechanic or equivalent.
• Waste and recycling industry experience preferred.
• CDL with no restrictions required within 8 months of hire.
• Experience with heavy landfill equipment and processing equipment preferred.
• Knowledge of diesel/NG engines and electrical controls.
• High school diploma or GED preferred; trade school desirable.

Responsibilities

• Diagnoses, tests, and repairs vehicles and heavy landfill equipment including powertrains, drivetrains, and systems.
• Diagnoses, tests, repairs refuse vehicle/body systems including hydraulic and electrical.
• Maintain processing equipment such as balers, conveyors, hoppers and motors.
• Perform basic fabrication using welding tools and equipment.
• Order and maintain shop parts and supplies.
• Complete paperwork and enter data in databases.
• Lead worker by directing others and reviewing work.
