Job summary

Recology Del Norte is seeking a skilled journeyman mechanic for Crescent City operations. You will diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy landfill equipment, processing machinery, and vehicle systems to ensure safety and continuous operation.

The role emphasizes leadership responsibilities, adherence to DOT and safety standards, and coordination of parts and paperwork. A high school diploma or GED is expected, with trade schooling and CDL preferred within six months of hire.

Qualifications

• Four years of progressively responsible mechanical experience as a journeyman mechanic (or equivalent).
• Waste and recycling industry experience preferred.
• DOT Out-of-Service Criteria knowledge including CHP B.I.T. Inspections and DOT audits.
• Experience with maintenance facilities and vehicles/equipment like balers, conveyors, hoppers, motors.
• Knowledge of diesel/NG engines and heavy equipment components.
• Electrical controls and motor systems knowledge.
• Health/safety regulations familiarity.
• CDL Class A or B with air brake endorsement preferred within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, test, and repair vehicles and heavy landfill equipment including powertrains and drivetrains.
• Diagnose and repair hydraulic, electrical, and body systems in refuse vehicles and trailers.
• Maintain processing equipment such as balers, conveyors, and motors; maintain shop facilities.
• Perform basic fabrication using welding equipment and tools.
• Order and manage shop parts, tools, and supplies.
• Complete paperwork and database entries accurately for work performed.
• Lead and direct others by assigning and checking work.
