Job summary

King County is seeking two Journeyman Lead Mechanics to oversee maintenance operations for light-, medium-, and heavy-duty trucks and transfer station equipment in the Solid Waste Division. You will lead hands-on repairs, generate work orders, and mentor junior staff within a collaborative team.

The role emphasizes safe, high-quality workmanship, with opportunities to advance skills through training and involvement in vehicle specifications evaluations.

Qualifications

• Journeyman Mechanic with 4 years preferred, heavy duty repair experience.
• Lead Mechanic experience 1–2 years preferred.
• Proficiency in safe work practices and procedures in a maintenance environment.
• Microsoft Office applications and Faster CMMS proficiency.
• Extensive diagnostic software knowledge (Cummins INSITE, CAT ET, John Deere Service Advisor Pro, etc.)
• Ability to read and interpret manuals, schematics, and diagnostics.

Responsibilities

• Plan and oversee daily activities of a team of mechanics.
• Provide technical leadership and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and complex equipment issues.
• Diagnose and repair a wide range of vehicles and equipment (light to heavy duty).
• Generate and maintain accurate work orders and records in Faster.
• Read manuals and schematics to support diagnostics and maintenance.
• Collaborate with management on training and process improvements.
