Job summary

Herc Rentals is seeking a Mechanic A in San Jose, CA to lead fleet maintenance and mentor junior technicians. The role demands hands-on diagnostics, preventative maintenance, and adherence to safety standards while keeping equipment rental-ready.

The candidate should demonstrate mastery of electrical, hydraulic, and propulsion systems, plus the ability to document repair logs and coordinate with the shop lead for timely service.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ownership of hand and air/electric tools to complete most repairs.
• Ability to drive and operate multiple equipment types.
• Mastery of Mechanic B and C tasks, electrical/hydraulic/fuel systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead fleet maintenance and ensure equipment is ready for rental.
• Perform preventive maintenance and diagnose issues independently.
• Mentor mechanics and support shop leadership with repairs.
• Enter and review work orders, generate service reports.
