Job summary

Whole Foods Market seeks an Expert Butcher to showcase extensive knowledge in meat and poultry handling, cutting, preparation, display, and sales. You will coach and mentor butchers and apprentices, supervise the Meat Team, and place orders in the absence of Team Leadership.

Responsibilities include training, mentoring, delegating tasks, ensuring quality and pricing accuracy, and maintaining safety and cleanliness in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Successfully completed WFM Butcher Apprentice Program or equivalent training.
• Expert meat cutting experience in a butcher role (3–5 years full-time).
• Proven track record of training and mentoring other Butchers or Apprentice Butchers.

Responsibilities

• Maintains WFM GIG policies, SOPs, and quality standards.
• Performs all aspects of meat cutting including trimming specifications and margins.
• Cuts, platters, and merchandises products with accurate signage and pricing.
• Trains and mentors other Butchers and Apprentice Butchers including acting as Designated Instructor.
• Supervises Meat Team Members and Apprentices; delegates tasks as needed.
• Acts as point person in absence of Team Leadership; supports ordering and inventory management.
• Provides excellent customer service and uses suggestive selling techniques; handles phones respectfully.
• Maintains a clean and sanitary work and shopping environment; ensures equipment cleanliness and safety.
• Performs opening, mid, and closing duties; reports safety hazards promptly.
• Performs other duties as assigned by leadership.
