Job summary

Whole Foods Market is seeking an Expert Butcher in New York to lead and mentor the Meat Team, perform advanced meat cutting, and manage inventory and orders when leadership is unavailable.

You will showcase high proficiency in handling, cutting, preparation, display, and selling of meat and poultry, while coaching apprentices and maintaining strict health, safety, and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Expert meat cutting knowledge and ability to teach others.
• Experience training and mentoring Butchers/Apprentice Butchers.
• Strong leadership and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Maintains WFM GIG policies, standard operation procedures, and quality standards.
• Performs all aspects of meat cutting including margin and shrink control; handles special orders and trimming specs.
• Cuts, platters, merchandises products across beef, pork, lamb, veal, poultry, sausage, oven ready products, and cured meats; ensures accurate signs and pricing.
• Trains and mentors other Butchers and Apprentice Butchers including as Designated Instructor.
• Supervises and delegates tasks to Meat Team Members, Apprentice Butchers, and Butchers.
• Acts as point person in absence of Team Leadership; supports ordering and inventory management.
• Delivers excellent customer service and uses suggestive selling techniques; handles phones and inquiries promptly.
• Maintains clean and sanitary work and shopping areas; ensures equipment cleanliness and safety standards.
• Performs opening, mid, and closing duties; reports safety hazards promptly.
• Performs other duties as assigned by leadership.
