Job summary

GE Aerospace seeks an Operations Lead for Combustors & Structures Lab to monitor shop operations and drive LEAN improvements in a low-volume, high-mix environment.

The role emphasizes managing external vendor flow, standard work creation, and strong cross-functional communication with engineering, quality, and customers. A solid manufacturing background and LEAN/Six Sigma experience are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college or a high school diploma / GED with at least 4 years of experience in manufacturing.
  • Minimum 3 additional years Manufacturing experience, ideally with machining, assembly, machine repair or inspection.
  • Experience with LEAN / Six Sigma and 5S principles.
  • Experience with shop operations, particularly hardware management, scheduling, quoting, and finance.
  • Knowledge of CAM/CAD tools and Unigraphics NX.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and direction; self-starter.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and improve shop operations to status WIP hardware and manage schedule and bandwidth.
  • Coordinate flow through outside vendor operations, including shipping, paperwork, PO's, and vendor contact.
  • Lead LEAN implementation and sustainment in a high-mix, low-volume environment with standard work and 5S improvements.
  • Interface with management, customers, engineering, quality, and vendors to communicate hardware status and needs.
  • Create process documentation and operating instructions.
  • Assist troubleshooting and resolve manufacturing process issues.

Job Description Summary

The Combustors & Structures Lab Operations Lead will be responsible for monitoring and assessing shop operations, supporting the flow of hardware through external operations, and leading LEAN implementation and sustainment in a low volume, high mix development environment.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Maintain and improve existing operations monitoring process to routinely status WIP hardware and maintain a robust schedule to manage shop bandwidth and inform future work.
  • Support hardware by managing flow through outside vendor operations, including managing shipping, conformity documentation, purchase orders, and acting as main vendor point of contact for the shop.
  • Lead implementation of LEAN in the shop, applying principles as appropriate to a high-mix, low volume environment, developing standard work and driving 5S improvement.
  • Interface with various levels of management and customers, including engineering, quality, inspection, engine programs, external customers, and outside vendors to effectively communicate hardware status and shop needs.
  • Create process documentation and operating instructions.
  • Support troubleshooting and resolve manufacturing process issues.
