Job summary

Henry Ford Health in Michigan is seeking a Lead Mammography Technologist for the Breast Center. Under the direction of a Radiologist, you will perform Radiologic breast imaging, ensure patient safety, and uphold department protocols.

The role requires ARRT Mammography registry( M ), MQSA compliance, and ongoing education. Schedule is Monday through Friday, 7 am - 3:30 pm, with no weekend duties.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• ARRT Mammography registry (M) required or registry-eligible with 12-month deadline.
• Must meet MQSA criteria and maintain continued medical education.

Responsibilities

• Explain examination procedures to patients and prepare them for the exam.
• Perform radiologic breast imaging procedures as ordered by a physician.
• Prepare procedure room and set up equipment, ensuring sterility and stock levels.
• Apply radiation protection principles and use ALARA techniques to minimize dose.

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the direction of a Radiologist, performs Radiologic breast imaging procedures for the evaluation of pathological entities as ordered by a physician. Performs related functions according to department protocols. Utilizes independent judgment in determining appropriate radiographic techniques, positioning, and safety practices.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Explains examination procedure to patients and prepares patient for the examination. Reviews clinical data on requisition and performs appropriate examination.

Obtains additional information about the patient medical history as necessary.

Prepares procedure room and regularly replenishes stock such as linen and related supplies. Analyzes anatomical structure of patient, sets up equipment and performs the Radiologic procedure.

Manually controls the equipment to obtain the proper diagnostic information from the area of the body being studied.

Utilizes patient immobilization as needed.

Performs all imaging procedures by demonstrating the principles of radiation protection: may involve shielding of patients, selection of appropriate equipment settings to reduce dose, using other ALARA techniques, etc.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent is required

Must be registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) and the advanced registry in Mammography, ARRT (M) (or registry eligible)

If registry eligible, registry must be obtained within 12 months of date of hire

Failure to obtain registry within the designated time-frame will result in termination of the Mammography Tech position

Must maintain the required hours of continued medical education

Must meet all Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) criteria, as well as other regulatory agencies
