Job summary

MidPen Housing Corp. in Oakland, CA, seeks a Maintenance Technician to support our affordable housing communities. You will handle diverse maintenance tasks across electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and landscaping systems, impacting residents’ daily quality of life.

Reporting to the Community Manager, you will work hands-on in a mission-driven environment, mentor junior staff, coordinate with contractors, and ensure safe, welcoming homes for our residents and their families.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with three years of maintenance, landscaping, and irrigation experience.
• Extensive plumbing knowledge with electrical repair experience.
• Rough and finish carpentry experience for structural and cosmetic repairs.
• Basic OSHA safety knowledge and landscape maintenance practices.
• Strong coaching and training abilities with good communication.
• Basic computer skills for work order management.
• Valid California driver’s license with reliable transportation and current insurance.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Participate in rotating on-call schedule for 24/7 emergency maintenance after-hours.
• Perform skilled maintenance including electrical, plumbing, and carpentry repairs.
• Prepare vacant units for re-occupancy within established timeframes.
• Maintain landscaping and irrigation and ensure secure common areas.
• Coach and oversee Maintenance Groundskeeper staff and train team members.
• Coordinate with contractors, schedule work, and monitor completion.
• Maintain preventive maintenance schedules and manage inventory.
• Assist Community Manager with moves, inspections, and procurement.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
