Job summary

City of Durham is seeking a Maintenance Supervisor/Operator within the Environmental & Street Services Department. You will oversee crews and coordinate complex maintenance tasks on city properties, roads and traffic systems while ensuring safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalency.
• Four or more years of equipment operation/driving experience or technical maintenance experience.
• One year of technical training in area of assignment.
• CDL B driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct supervision to crews performing diverse construction and maintenance functions in asphalt, concrete, stormwater, and street cleaning sections.
• Safely load/unload heavy equipment and tow between sites.
• Perform vehicle and equipment inspections and basic repairs.
• Operate backhoe and excavator; drive dump trucks regularly.
• Communicate status of work orders to supervisors and management.
• Ensure crew compliance with DOT traffic laws and PPE requirements.
• Assist with traffic control device installation and flagging operations.
• Lead training and ensure CMMS data entry for time, labor and materials.
