TRANSIT MANAGEMENT OF CHARLOTTE INC is seeking a Maintenance Fleet Supervisor to oversee Mechanical Diesel Technicians and the maintenance, repair, and servicing of mass transit vehicles on an assigned shift. The role ensures safe, timely, and cost-effective maintenance and reports to the Maintenance Manager.

Responsibilities include supervising technicians, scheduling work, inspecting progress, teaching safe tool use, and coordinating with the Transportation Department to ensure vehicle

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of repair, overhaul and servicing of heavy-duty transit vehicles.
  • Knowledge in electronic engine/transmission diagnosis and repairs.
  • Knowledge of supervisory methods and procedures.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Must pass pre-employment screenings such as DOT physical examination and drug test.
  • Must maintain a current North Carolina CDL, Class B with “Passenger” and “Air Brake” endorsements.
  • Willing to work days, nights, weekends, holidays; shift may vary.

Job description

Description

The Maintenance Fleet Supervisor independently supervises Mechanical Diesel Technicians, engage in the maintenance, repair, and servicing of mass transit vehicles on an assigned shift. The Maintenance Fleet Supervisor assures that the maintenance activities are carried out safely, effectively and efficiently in order to consistently provide timely, safe, and cost-effective transportation to the public. The Maintenance Fleet Supervisor reports directly to the Maintenance Manager.

  • Provides exemplary customer service to both internal and external customers through effective communication, performance management.
  • Schedules and assigns work to Technicians as well as shift assignments.
  • Inspects/Supervises work in progress, ensuring all jobs are executed according to Agency repair standards and that all units released to the Transportation Department are clean and safe for service
  • Independently forms opinions and makes decisions on vehicle safety, Maintenance Manager and other management staff for guidance as required.
  • Instructs/Demonstrates the proper and safe use of tools and diagnostic equipment.
  • Ensures that all policies, procedures and work rules are followed through leadership, enthusiasm and a “can-do” attitude in order for the success of the Maintenance Department.
  • Communicates with the Transportation Department and Dispatch on the availability/non-availability of vehicles to ensure that the Transportation Department has units available to achieve pullout.
  • Provides counseling, feedback, and commendations to Maintenance staff, and when necessary, issues violations in compliance with Agency policies.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the repair, overhaul and servicing principles and procedures of heavy-duty transit vehicles
  • Knowledge in electronic engine/transmission diagnosis and repairs
  • Knowledge of supervisory methods and procedures
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to execute preventive maintenance plans for mobile/non-mobile equipment
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work as part of a team and perform quality leadership duties
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills required
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment screenings such as DOT physical examination and alcohol and drug test
  • Must maintain a current North Carolina CDL, Class B with “Passenger” and “Air Brake” endorsements
  • Must be willing to work days, nights, weekends, holidays- shift may vary to meet demands and hours of the operation of bus service
  • Must be able to work in various weather conditions, temperatures, and around loud noises, moving parts, fumes, and chemicals
  • Employees must be able to communicate in English
