Job summary

Whatcom Community College is seeking a skilled Maintenance Mechanic 4 to maintain campus buildings and systems. This full-time, 1.0 FTE role supervises maintenance staff, plans and inspects projects, coordinates with contractors, and ensures safety, codes, and reliability of facilities.

Based in Bellingham, WA, the position requires an apprenticeship, journey-level experience, and the ability to respond to emergencies. Comprehensive benefits accompany this on-site role.

Qualifications

• Completion of a recognized apprenticeship in a skilled mechanical trade.
• Two years journey-level experience in building and equipment maintenance.
• Ability to supervise, coordinate, and inspect work across teams and contractors.
• Must meet background and safety requirements and obtain first aid certification within one year.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and delegate work orders to maintenance staff and hourly workers.
• Plan, schedule, and inspect maintenance projects and assign resources.
• Prepare cost/time estimates for facilities projects and monitor budgets.
• Identify deficiencies, troubleshoot complex mechanical problems, and implement fixes.
• Coordinate with contractors, review scope, and inspect completed work.
• Maintain maintenance records and ensure safety compliance and codes.
