Job summary

Bowie State University is seeking a Maintenance Mechanical Lead to oversee campus facilities maintenance, supervise a team, and ensure preventive maintenance and repairs are completed effectively. The role emphasizes planning, safety, and operational readiness across building systems.

The position requires multi-year maintenance experience, knowledge of trade practices, and the ability to manage workloads and mentor staff.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Four (4) years of related maintenance or construction experience.
• At least three (3) years of experience in a related trade area.
• Ability to perform semi-skilled maintenance and repair work independently.
• Ability to read and follow instructions, plans, and service documentation.
• Ability to lift up to 70 lbs and perform physically demanding work.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting on building systems and structural components.
• Respond to maintenance requests and resolve operational issues.
• Lead, train, and support semi-skilled and unskilled maintenance personnel.
• Assist in planning, scheduling, assigning, and reviewing work activities.
• Inspect building systems and equipment to ensure safety and operational readiness.
• Maintain adequate materials, supplies, and tools for assigned work areas.
• Prepare work logs, service records, and operational reports.
• Estimate labor, time, and materials required for assigned tasks.
• Assist skilled trades staff with repairs, renovations, and new construction work.
• Operate and maintain tools and equipment; ensure clean and safe work environments.
