Job summary

Gulf Stream Marine, Inc. is seeking a competent Longshoreman to perform advanced cargo handling in vessel holds and terminal operations. The role requires trained PIT operation, equipment use, and strict adherence to safety standards in outdoor terminal environments.

Responsibilities include hoisting, securing cargo, using forklifts and yard tools, and inspecting lifting gear. Must work independently or as part of a team in varying weather and high-noise settings.

Qualifications

• Experience in vessel hold operations and advanced cargo handling.
• Completion of specialized training in PIT operation, cargo securing, and equipment use.
• Proficiency with forklifts, yard mules, chain saws, and chop saws.
• Strong understanding of cargo stowage principles and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Hooking on cargoes in the hold for unloading and unhooking during loading onto the vessel.
• Understand cargo stowage, dunnage and securing requirements.
• Operate PIT equipment for stowing cargo on the vessel (small forklift or yard mule).
• Proficient with chain and chop saws; secure cargo with lashings and carpentry; remove lashings safely.
• Visually inspect lifting gear and maintain a clean work area.
