Job summary

Cheney Public Schools, Sunset Elementary in Airway Heights, WA, is seeking a Lead Line for the Nutrition Services team. This full-time classified position runs 8 hours per day, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, for 182 days a year.

The role requires a high school diploma and two years of culinary leadership experience, a valid food handler’s permit, and a Washington driver’s license. Benefits include health, dental, vision, and retirement plans.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent and related work experience.
• Minimum two years of professional culinary arts, with food production experience in a leadership role, required.
• Must hold a current and valid food handler’s permit.
• Must have and maintain a valid Washington State Driver’s License.
• Ability to use proper grammar, spelling, and language in both oral and written communication, as well as basic math skills.
• Membership in American Culinary Federation is preferred.
• ServeSafe certification is preferred.
• Previous cashier experience at point of sale preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee kitchen readiness during production and service, ensuring efficient workflow and high-quality output.
• Assist in food production according to recipes and standards; support daily service.
• Float in kitchen assistant/cashier roles as needed to support the team.
• Maintain food safety standards and HACCP records; ensure proper temperature and sanitation.
• Maintain records, assist with inventory, and manage purchases for kitchen operations.
• Mentor substitutes and support other departments as required.
