Job summary

Seattle Public Schools is seeking a dedicated kitchen position to heat, serve, and supervise meals in a satellite kitchen. You will follow menus, ensure safety and sanitation, and manage staffing schedules to deliver nutritious, cost-effective meals to students.

The role requires strong teamwork, basic math, and ability to train staff and student workers. Physically able to stand for long periods and comply with district food-handling rules is essential.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of food preparation techniques and sanitation
• Food safety and sanitation knowledge, including basic USDA meal pattern familiarity
• Ability to perform simple mathematical calculations

Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve meals following menu planners and district requirements
• Ensure staff and student helpers follow proper food handling and safety procedures
• Develop and post work schedules and serving-area diagrams for continuity
• Maintain records and reports (meal counts, cash, payroll, inventory, etc.)
• Maintain and schedule cleaning of kitchen and storage areas and equipment
• Order meals from central kitchen and adjust counts to use all food
• Maintain stock of food and supplies and rotate/reorder as needed
• Train and supervise staff and student workers; conduct evaluations
• Promote Culinary Services programs to increase meal participation
• Check and secure kitchen and dining areas at end of shift
• Perform related duties as assigned
