Lead Laboratory Manager – Construction Materials Testing

Job summary

Atlas is seeking a Laboratory Manager to lead testing operations in the Lakewood office. You will manage staff, oversee asphalt, soil, aggregate and concrete testing programs, and develop mix designs while maintaining AMRL and CCRL accreditations.

You will ensure quality, safety, and client-focused solutions in a dynamic, community-minded environment. You will coordinate schedules for up to 10 staff, review technical drawings and reports, and liaise with clients to meet project needs.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5+ years of related experience or education in construction, construction materials testing, or geotechnical engineering fields.
• High school diploma is required.
• BS in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or Geological disciplines desirable (not required).
• Minimum 5+ years staff management experience.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and MS Teams.
• Knowledge of construction materials testing processes and equipment.
• Familiar with ASTM, ACI, AASHTO and CDOT codes.
• Technical knowledge of aggregate, concrete, soils and asphalt.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and reports.
• Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs daily.
• Radioactive Materials Usage training (provided at hire).
• Coordinate and schedule upwards of 10 laboratory staff.
• Clear written and verbal communication of expectations.
• Comprehensive knowledge of construction materials testing and geotechnical industry.
• Willing to develop scheduling strategies with leadership.
• Willing to obtain LABCAT levels A/B/C/E and ACI certifications.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily laboratory staff and oversee testing services in Lakewood.
• Develop asphalt, soil, aggregate, and concrete testing schedules and mix designs.
• Provide oversight and write client reports.
• Communicate with clients to understand needs and services.
• Troubleshoot field and lab testing situations and equipment issues.
• Determine personnel and equipment requirements with leadership input.
• Maintain AMRL and CCRL accreditations and prepare for audits.
• Ensure safety compliance and proper PPE use.
• Implement the Quality Management System and report deficiencies to leadership.
