Job summary

Whirlwind Steel in Houston, TX is seeking a Paint Department Team Leader to guide the painting crew, align daily goals with production targets, and uphold quality and safety standards. You will support hiring, onboarding, and training while hands-on painting operations are performed as needed.

The role requires leadership, strong communication, and a focus on safety as part of a busy manufacturing environment. A background in industrial painting and crane/forklift operation is ideal.

Qualifications

• Minimum high school diploma or GED is required and industrial painting experience is preferred.
• Proven leadership, coaching, and communication abilities in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.
• Strong safety practices knowledge and the ability to enforce them with a team.
• Experience operating overhead cranes and forklifts in production environments.
• Ability to plan, schedule, and monitor daily production activities and reports.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support Paint Department team members by communicating daily goals and safety practices.
• Assist management with hiring, onboarding, and training of new team members.
• Oversee daily painting operations to meet quality standards and production targets.
• Maintain surfaces, mix coatings, and apply primers and finishes as needed.
• Monitor quality, safety, and productivity; provide coaching as required.
• Prepare daily production reports and manage department inventory and supplies.
• Ensure safe operation of cranes and hoists during painting tasks.
• Support team with issues, questions, and continuous improvement ideas.
• Conduct team meetings to share best practices and department goals.
