Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a Hydraulic Structures Engineer to advance the design of flood control, water supply, and related hydraulic facilities. You will lead cross-disciplinary teams, develop scopes, and manage budgets across projects in the United States and beyond.

Responsibilities include design analysis, construction support, risk assessments, and client presentations. A PE license and 10 years of relevant experience are preferred, with some travel expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Architectural or Structural Engineering.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• 10 years of related experience.
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and design hydraulic structures for flood control, hydroelectric, and other water resource projects.
• Lead project teams of structural engineers and coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams.
• Prepare project proposals with scopes of work, budgets, and schedules.
• Forecast workload and schedules.
• Prepare contract documents including drawings, specifications, design documentation and criteria, cost estimates, and bid documents.
• Perform engineering services during construction including review of shop drawings and responses to contractor questions.
• Conduct inspections and structural assessments and prepare reports.
• Prepare and present technical presentations to project team, clients, and technical review boards.
• Conduct potential failure mode analyses and risk analyses for hydraulic structures and document findings.
• Manage tasks on large projects or multiple medium projects.
• Review work for quality against codes and standards, monitor budgets and schedules.
• Participate in business development, marketing, and recruiting activities.
• Act as a mentor for junior staff.
