Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a Hydraulic Structures Engineer to design hydraulic structures for flood control and water projects. You will lead multidisciplinary teams, prepare proposals, and guide projects from concept through construction, ensuring quality, budgets, and schedules are met.

A PE license and 10 years of experience are expected. The role supports flexible schedules with partial remote work and involves travel.

Qualifications

Expert knowledge in the analysis and design of hydraulic structures per USACE/USBR/FEMA and related standards.
Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Architectural or Structural Engineering or related discipline.
PE license; 10 years of related experience; travel as required.

Responsibilities

Analyze and design hydraulic structures for flood control, hydroelectric, and other water resource projects.
Lead project teams of structural engineers and coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams.
Prepare project proposals with scopes, budgets and schedules.
Forecast workload and schedules.
Prepare contract documents including drawings, specifications, cost estimates and bid documents.
Review shop drawings and respond to contractor questions during construction.
Inspect existing structures and prepare reports.
Present technical presentations to project teams, clients and review boards.
Conduct risk analyses for hydraulic structures and identify potential failure modes.
Manage tasks on large or multiple projects.
Review deliverables for quality and code compliance.
Monitor budgets and schedules.
Participate in business development, marketing and recruiting.
Mentor junior staff.
