Job summary

Bergen Community College seeks an experienced HVAC Mechanic to lead the daily operation of its HVAC/R shop and ensure the continuous comfort of heating and cooling systems serving classrooms, labs, and offices. The role requires strong troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and the ability to coordinate with Supervisors and staff.

Ideal candidates have six years of experience with commercial/industrial HVAC/R, EPA Universal certification, NJ Blue Seal refrigeration, and a valid driver's

Qualifications

• Requires High School diploma or equivalent; Vocational or apprenticeship preferred.
• Six years of experience maintaining and repairing sophisticated HVAC/R systems including controls and equipment.
• EPA Certified Universal Technician under Section 608 for CFCs/HCFCs/HFCs.
• NJ Blue Seal Refrigeration; other licenses/certifications a plus.
• Driver's license required; Certified Pool Operator within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily operation of the HVAC/R shop and monitor system performance.
• Respond to HVAC complaints and troubleshoot to inform Supervisors/Managers.
• Perform preventive maintenance to optimize energy efficiency and system reliability.
• Install electrical piping, controls, and duct work for new or upgraded equipment.
• Maintain logs, reports, and CMMS entries documenting work, parts, and conditions.
