Job summary

Kelso Industries is seeking an HVAC retrofit technician to upgrade and replace commercial building systems across the Northeast, including Massachusetts. The role focuses on improving energy efficiency, meeting code requirements, and boosting overall performance.

You will remove and replace HVAC equipment, install VRF systems, run low-voltage wiring, assist with light sheet metal fabrication, and ensure compliance with codes. Read blueprints and coordinate with customers to maintain schedules.

Qualifications

• 3+ years hands-on HVAC experience.
• Proficiency with VRF systems and light commercial work.
• Ability to read blueprints, mechanical drawings, and manufacturer documentation.
• Physical capability to climb ladders, lift heavy equipment, and work in confined spaces.
• Strong troubleshooting skills during installation challenges.
• EPA Universal certification is required.
• OSHA 10 is required.

Responsibilities

• Install modern systems such as VRF and other advanced building controls.
• Run low-voltage control wiring and complete rough-in work.
• Assist with light sheet metal fabrication and installation as needed.
• Follow all applicable federal, state, and local codes and regulations.
• Communicate with customers on-site to answer questions and explain work performed.
• Work with crew to keep projects on schedule and meet customer expectations.

About This Role

This position focuses on commercial retrofit HVAC work — upgrading and replacing existing building systems including HVAC equipment to improve energy efficiency, meet code requirements, and boost overall performance.

This role would support work throughout the Northeast including Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maryland, Rhode Island, and DC.

What You’ll Do

• Remove and replace commercial heating and cooling equipment, including furnaces, air conditioners, chillers, and rooftop package units.
• Install modern systems such as Variable Air Volume (VAV) and Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) equipment, along with advanced building controls.
• Run low-voltage control wiring and complete rough-in work.
• Assist with light sheet metal fabrication and installation as needed.
• Follow all applicable federal, state, and local codes and regulations.
• Communicate with customers on-site to answer questions and explain work being performed.
• Work alongside crew members to keep projects on schedule and meet customer expectations.
