Job summary

Jefferson Lab is seeking a seasoned storage architect to lead the High-Performance Data Facility (HPDF) storage design. You will direct multi-tier, distributed storage across on-site and cross-site locations, evaluating technologies and building models for performance and total cost of ownership.

This is a leadership role within a DOE project, guiding a future storage team. You will work with hybrid cloud HPC workloads, design immutability and archival strategies, and ensure data integrity and

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other relevant IT field.
• 10+ years HPC, scientific computing, or large-scale distributed systems experience.
• 4+ years designing and deploying high‑performance parallel or distributed file systems at petabyte scale or beyond.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical design of a multi-tiered, distributed storage system with high-throughput performance across locations.
• Evaluate storage technologies and engage vendors to support architecture decisions.
• Develop performance and cost models to guide storage system selection and validation.
• Define initial SLOs/SLIs and implement monitoring and alerting for design validation and operations.
• Define the operational framework and staffing plan for the storage team.
